Effect of siliceous sand volume fraction on the properties of alkali-activated slag mortars

Abstract One of the critical factors affecting performance alkali-activated slag (AAS) is nature and dose alkali activator. The activator type can play a significant role during transition from pastes to mortars or concretes. Therefore, three basic sodium activators (water glass, carbonate, hydroxide) same molarity 4M Na + were used prepare AAS-based with different volume fractions siliceous sand. These compared by means workability, mechanical strength, long-term shrinkage under autogenous conditions. results those obtained on similar workability. Increasing content sand tended rather decrease properties, while greatly decreased shrinkage. Nevertheless, most remarkable differences for observed when comparing pastes. resulted in highest reduction both compressive flexural strength hydroxide. water glass carbonate even increased considerably presence
